Bug Reports in Market Comments

The most frustrating aspect of developing Android applications are the “bug reports” which often pop up in the Market comments. They are frustrating for several reasons:

  1. You can't contact the User which has a problem.
  2. The Author the program is not informed about them — You often see them only weeks later.
  3. They are often unfair and you can't explain your side of the story.
  4. They are never corrected — even when the actual bug has been fixed.

The last point is of course the most frustrating part and demotivating part. If you as a customer think that a Market comments makes me fix a bug faster then you are mistaken. I might not know about the bug (see point 2) and if I finally find out about it then I also know that it is to late anyway (see point 4).

I will still fix all problems I know off — but Market Comments will not give top priority any more. Fixing Bugs which come in by E-Mail or in the Forum here have of course priority as with those I still have a change to fix the problem before it hits the Market Comments.
